Guests to this year’s Lafayette County Dairy Breakfast can expect more than just breakfast, as this year’s hosts look forward to providing an educational and enriching ‘life-on-the-farm’ experience. The UW-Platteville Pioneer Farm, 29200 College Farm Road, Platteville; will be the location of the 2026 Lafayette County Dairy Breakfast, held on Saturday, June 13, from 6:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., rain or shine. Free parking, weather permitting, will be available on the grounds.
The Lafayette County Dairy Promotion Committee is coordinating this year’s event. The menu includes scrambled eggs with ham and cheese, sausage links, donuts, pudding, and ice cream. Beverages include coffee, juice, and milk.
Pioneer Farm was the location of the dairy breakfast in 2018 and 1986. Since that time, a lot has changed, as there have been many upgrades on the farm.
“When the Pioneer Farm hosted back in 2018, the robots and research wasn’t yet part of the farm,” shares Charles Steiner, Director of Pioneer Farm, School of Agriculture. “We look forward to showing the robot milkers, because most people are going to be curious about how they work. We have representatives from Lely Astronaut available to answer any questions that guests might have during their visit to the farm.”
Two Lely Astronaut automated robotic milkers, help milk the 200+ dairy herd. Lely also has other robotic machines on the farm, which includes a feed-pusher which operates regularly in the dairy barn.
“Half of the dairy herd are milked by the robots, and the other half are milked in the parlor,” shares Cory Weigel, Dairy Enterprise Manager of Pioneer Farms. “We have 215 holsteins altogether, who are milked by either one of the two methods, not by both.”
