The Monroe Cheesemakers boys track team brought home a second place trophy after scoring 34 points and finishing as state runner-up at the WIAA State Track and Field Championship at La Crosse on June 5 and June 6.
Monroe was second only to Winneconne, who scored 71.5 points.
The Cheesemakers accumulated their scoring through seven events. The 4x800 relay team of Elijah Cook, Eli Phillips, Landon Smith, and Lukas Gerber scored five points by placing fourth with a time of 7:59.08.
Waylon Yoder placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 165 feet, four inches and earned five points. Yoder also placed sixth in the shot put and scored three points. His throw traveled 54-8.25.
Tre Dammen finished in second place in the 3,200-meter run with a personal record time of 9:10.34. Dammen’s run scored eight points. Dammen also scored points in the 1,600-meter run where he took sixth place with a time of 4:19.99 and scored three points.
In the 800-meter run, Kam Gerber-Reamer took fourth place with five points with a time of 1:54.72.
The Cheesemakers also got five points for finishing fourth in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Noah Spotts, Eli Phillips, Kam Gerber-Reamer, and Jy’Shon Broitzman finished with a time of 3:22.77.
In the girls Division 2 competition, Victoria Wolf of Monroe finished 16th and teammate Navaeh Huenefeld was 17th in the 3,200-meter run. The Cheesemakers 4x800 meter relay team of Mya Wild, Alivia Mosher, Lyla Ritschard, and Miley Hanson finished ninth with a time of 9:42.26.
Also in Division 2, Brodhead-Juda boys placed 16th with 11 points. Mavrik Plummer was third in the 800-meter run. Grayson Arn was seventh in the 200-meter dash, and Simon Moore was seventh in the pole vault (13-6), a mark matched by six competitors and the fourth highest in Division 2. Brodhead-Juda’s 4x100 meter relay team of Nolan Bump, Cohen Henze, Tegan Pinnow, and Grayson Arn placed eighth.
Brent Weeden of New Glarus placed third in the shot put with a toss of 58-6.75, giving the Glarner Knights six points and 37th place as a team.
Division 3
Darlington boys scored eight points and finished in 29th place in Division 3 at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships in La Crosse on June 5 and June 6.
Darlington’s 4x200 meter relay team with Peyton Dempsey, Ryder Fitzsimons, Calum Crist, and Zeke Zuberbuhler placed fifth with a time of 1:30.45. As an individual qualifier, Zuberbuhler placed fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.04 seconds.
Also in Division 3 boys, Albany’s 4x800 meter relay team got 18th place with Noah Lisser, Beckett Wachholz, Kaleb Broughton, and Brooks Wachholz completing the relay in 8:37.90.
In Division 3 girls, Darlington’s 4x400 meter relay team of Madison Welacha, Adalee Berget, Brianna Vazquez, and Alaina McGowan finished in 13th place (4:11.19) while the 4x800 relay team (Welacha, McGowan, Vazquez, and Berget) took sixth place in 9:40.27. Individually, Alaina McGowan was 12th in the 800-meter run in 2:27.31.
Another result in Division 3 girls had Braxtyn Ayers of Belleville take 15th place in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 9.75 inches.
