Foltz tabbed as new Monroe Police Chief

MONROE — The City of Monroe Board of Police and Fire Commission (PFC) has selected Captain Nathan Foltz as its next Chief of Police. The appointment was approved Thursday and will take effect June 8, following the retirement of Chief Frederick Kelley.

Chief-designate Foltz brings more than a decade of law enforcement experience to the role. He began his career with the City of Monroe Police Department in 2013 and has spent the last year serving the community as Police Captain.

Over the past 13 years, he has played an active role in overseeing and strengthening departmental operations through multiple different roles. Foltz began in the patrol division, progressed to a detective in the investigations division, was promoted to Sergeant of the investigations division, and most recently served directly underneath Chief Kelley in the command team as Captain. Foltz has assisted in the development and implementation of key programs striving to provide Police Department Staff with the knowledge and tools to provide quality and reliable service to residents of the City of Monroe.

In addition to his service, Foltz came to the City of Monroe Police Department with a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. Foltz has also spent the last year deepening his knowledge base of police and emergency response leadership, decision making, and knowledge by completing Command Leadership and Executive Leadership Programs through the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.

The internal recruitment process began in February following Chief Kelley’s retirement announcement. The selection process included a comprehensive review of application materials and an interview process conducted by two panels which included Police & Fire Commission members and community stakeholders representing a variety of organizations and services.
