Monroe boys win 7th straight conf. title; girls win 3rd in a row
track and field stock

WHITEWATER — Both the Monroe Cheesemakers track teams won the Rock Valley-Valley Divisional track meet at Whitewater on Tuesday, May 5.

The Cheesemaker boys won the meet with 197 points and the Cheesemaker girls won with 151 points. It is the seventh consecutive conference championship for the boys and third in a row for the girls.

In the boys meet, senior Jy’Shon Broitzman took first place in the 100 meter dash in 11.55 seconds and the 400 meter dash in 51.14 seconds. Junior Kamrin Gerber-Reamer was second in the 400 (51.94). Senior Noah Spotts was first in the 200 (23.21). In the 800, junior Lukas Gerber finished first (2:07.08), just ahead of sophomore teammate Landon Smith (2nd, 2:07.44).

Monroe took the top three spots in the 1,600 meter run, as senior Tre Dammen (1st, 4:36.11), freshman Ace Rossing (2nd, 4:44.00), and sophomore Weston Huntsman (3rd, 4:44.81) finished 1-2-3. Dammen also won the 3,200 (10:58.87) with senior teammate Brady Keehn second (10:59.28).

Monroe dominated in the hurdles. In the 110 meter high hurdles, senior Will Keehn was second (15.99) and Killian Wild third (16.41). Will Keehn also got first place in the 300 hurdles (41.80), with Wild second (42.62). Senior Frank Wolf finished fourth (43.52).

Monroe’s relay teams won all four of the relay events. The Cheesemakers took the 4x100 with sophomore Riley Blum, senior Mekhi Brown, senior Bradley Holst and junior Ryan Roelli timed at 45.31 seconds. In the 4x200, Blum, Brown, Holst, and Roelli ran the relay in 1:34.28. The 4x400 meter relay team of Lukas Gerber, freshman Jacob Martin, junior Eli Phillips, and Gerber-Reamer finished in 3:37.65, and the 4x800 team of Huntsman, junior Elijah Cook, Smith, and Rossing topped the field in 8:53.27.

The field events saw Frank Wolf win the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches. Eli Phillips placed second in the long jump (19-7.25). In the triple jump, Wolf (40-1.25) and Wild (38-5) finished 1-2.

Monroe also finished first and second in the discus throw as senior Waylon Yoder (155-1) won the event, followed by sophomore teammate Tristan Anderson (143-11).

In the shot put, Monroe performed a trifecta with Yoder first (56-0), senior Peyton Herbst second (47-11) and sophomore Joah Wellman third (46-8).

The girls results had freshman Micki Andrews taking second in the 100 meter dash (13.42), and senior Miley Hanson third in the 200 (27.81), just ahead of teammate Mya Wild (28.01). Wild won the 400 (1:02.54). Monroe received third place and fourth place finishes in the 800 meter run from sophomore Alivia Mosher (2:35.07) and freshman Elizabeth Veeder (2:43.29), respectively.

The 1,600 meter run was won by junior Navaeh Huenefeld (5:33.70) and the 3,200 meter run was dominated by a trio of Cheesemakers. Sophomore Victoria Wolf (12:08.15) won the 3,200, followed by Huenefeld (12:22.53) and sophomore Kaylen Cassidy (12:33.32). Senior Brooke Bunker was first in both the 100 hurdles (17.30) and the 300 hurdles (52.55).

Monroe took first place in two of the four relays. The 4x100 team of sophomore Althea Sweeney, freshman Maya Eddy, senior Alexis Elgin, and freshman Micki Andrews were second (54.09). Monroe’s 4x400 quartet of junior Lyla Ritschard, Wild, Mosher, and Veeder finished first (4:19.52). Another first place finish came in the 4x800 with Cassidy, freshman Ally Miller, Mosher, and Wolf completing the relay in 11:24.02.

The Cheesemakers got the top two spots in the high jump with junior Braylee Friedrich (4-10) winning and Hanson (4-8) taking second. Hanson placed third in the long jump (15-7) while Sweeney was fourth (14-6.75). In the triple jump, Hanson placed second (33-5.25) and Friedrich third (31-5.5).

In the pole vault, senior Anna Zentner (8-0) was third and freshman Alexa Altmann (7-6) fourth. Freshman Mallory Palleson had the best discus throw for Monroe (78-2), which was good for fourth place. In the shot put, Micki Andrews was first (34-8) and Palleson second (30-8).
