To the Editor:
I recently picked up carryout at Pizzeria Uno’s in Platteville. As I was sitting at the bar waiting for my order, I noticed a bunch of silly bumper stickers decorating the wall. One of them caught my eye. It read “Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason.” I think it sums up most people’s sentiment about our current political environment.
After three terms of Howard Marklein representing Senate District 17, it’s time to change the diaper. The longer a politician holds office, the more likely they are to become disconnected from the needs of the people they are supposed to represent. A simple internet search of campaign donations will tell you all you need to know about what another four years for Howard will look for the people of the district. It smells like a pantload! Thousands of dollars from corporate PACs and special interests are filling his campaign coffers. How does this serve you and those you care for?
I have found a candidate running for district 17 that may be a fresh set of Pampers, Lisa White for Wisconsin! Whether you normally vote Republican or Democrat, this is a candidate who is proving she can not only get the job done, but she’s already putting in the work. A small business owner, a mother and grandmother and from the heart of the district, Lisa has a reputation for working together to achieve a common goal. When rumors of an AI data center project was being proposed in Cassville, she showed up at township meetings and listened to the concerns of everyone in the room. To inform the public, she and her campaign organized Data Centers in the Driftless: A Community Conversation. Hundreds of people spanning the political spectrum attended. Because of this event, the members of the Cassville township board saw the concern of their constituents and recently passed zoning laws to protect their community from the proposed project.
Getting people in a room, building a consensus and taking action. How often does this happen I today’s political environment? Where was Howard Marklein?
If you are as tired of stinky diapers as I am, let’s throw them away and elect someone actually doing the work. Please support Lisa White for Wisconsin in the August 11 primary and again on November 3!
