Carter: U.S. meddling in Iran again, 73 years later
Case for Driving an Electric Car

By Jim Carter

Blanchardville

To the Editor:

I remember where I was when World War II ended. I also vaguely remember some of the chaos during the years following the war. United States had been supplying Russia with some war materials through the northern border of Iran.

The Iran oil fields were valuable for us, as the Ploesti oil fields were valuable for the Germans. After the war, several political parties in Iran wanted to get control of the government; in effect, controlling the sale of the oil. As it happened, the CIA was financing one of those parties.

The following sentence is an excerpt from a paragraph describing political events in Iran in 1953, in a book by Elton Daniel:

“American involvement in the coup is invariably cited as a prime example of its harmful meddling, either through malevolence or stupidity, in the affairs of other countries.”

Give some thought to American involvement in the Korean Conflict (it was not a war no matter what Frank Sebranek said). Then Viet Nam and the two desert wars. Could it be that America was “meddling in the affairs of other countries”?

And now 73 years later, we are once again in Iran. You don’t think oil has anything to do with our being there? Let’s reread that sentence describing Iran in 1953. I think it accurately describes the position of America in Iran today.

Maybe we should all, each of us, be thoughtful and in our own individual, unique way make a strong effort to stop such “meddling” and DUMP TRUMP.
