The Foreign Type Cheesemaker’s Association have announced the results of the 2026 Green County Fair Cheese Auction. There were 24 bidders with a total auction of $83,597.50 on 86 lots (a total of approximately 410 pounds).
The first of this year’s Co-Grand Champion, Roth Grand Cru Reserve Cheese Wheel made by Emmi Roth USA, Monroe, sold for $200.00/pound for a total of $3,000.00. The second of this year’s Co-Grand Champion, White Curd made by Matt Henze of Decatur Dairy, Brodhead, sold 10 bags of curd for a total of $6,500.00. Regez Supply Co, Inc. entered the highest bid at $3,400.00 for 5 Bags of White Curd.
Regez Supply Co, Inc. was the largest purchaser at this year’s auction followed by Precision Drive & Control.
The Foreign Type Cheesemaker’s Association also thanked Rena Koning, Joe Mellem, Dan Powers, Julene Elmer and Tammy Wirth for conducting the auction. Alpine Slicing of Monroe provided their services in cutting and packaging the cheese for auction.
The Foreign Type Cheesemaker’s Association is very proud of its Cheesemakers and the excellent cheese they produce. The cheese that was not sold at the auction was donated to the Monroe and Green County Food Pantries (approximately 250 pounds) for distribution in our communities and to the Green County Dairy Queens (approximately 35 pounds).
The auction proceeds will support the United Way, the National Historic Cheesemaking Center, the Green County Fair, and other Dairy & Cheese related events selected by the Board over the next year.
