BEAVER DAM — The Cheesemakers improved to 12-1 on the season with an emphatic 65-52 win over Beaver Dam (15-5) Feb. 5.
Monroe led 34-29 at halftime against the Golden Beavers, which are known for their lethal shooting presence from beyond the arc. In the second half, the Cheesemakers slowed down the Beavers’ offense even more, outscoring the host school 31-23.
Monroe senior Cade Meyer led all scorers with 25 points. Junior JT Seagreaves had 17 for the Cheesemakers, with Carson Leuzinger and Max Golembiewski each finishing with 9. Beaver Dam’s Nate Abel, a Michigan Tech commit that has averaged 26 points per game and has a season high of 47 this year, needed to put in the extra work just to get 24 against the Cheesemakers.
Up next for Monroe is the regular season finale Feb. 12 at home against Middleton.
New Glarus 73, Waterloo 45
WATERLOO — Mason Martinson scored 26 points and the Glarner Knights dominated in the second half to pick up a win over the Pirates Feb. 5.
New Glarus (14-7) led 38-30 at the break but outscored Waterloo (3-17) 35-21 over the final 18 minutes.
Dain Walter had 16 points for New Glarus, and nine players in total scored — all with 3 points or more in a balanced scoring attack.
The Glarner Knights host Wisconsin Heights (4-7) Feb. 11 in the regular season finale.
Brodhead 65, Big Foot 54
BRODHEAD — Trailing by five at halftime to Big Foot (7-16) on Feb. 5, the Cardinals (12-7) didn’t fold. Instead, Owen Leifker and his teammates went to work and closed out another solid regular season win.
Leifker scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the second half, including hitting 6 of 7 free throws down the stretch. Brady Malkow and Devon Anderson each finished with 11 points for Brodhead, while Cade Walker had 10 and Connor Green 9.
While the Cardinals hit seven 3-pointers in the game, Big Foot all but lived-or-died by the 3. The Chiefs hit 10 triples in the game compared to just nine 2s, and went just 6 of 13 from the free throw line. Big Foot also picked up 12 of its 18 fouls in the second half alone, and leading scorer Gus Foster (15 points) fouled out in the second half after entering halftime with just one whistle against him. The Cardinals were whistled for eight fouls in each half and finished 14 of 21 from the charity stripe.
