Despite intermittent rain and thunder, former Monroe High School students with Move It Forward and the Monroe Booster Club were still able to hold a farewell slow-pitch softball game at Monroe High School on Thursday, July 2.

The farewell softball game was the first event of three summer events hosted by Move It Forward, created by former Monroe student Ethan Rosenstiel.

“We had a few popup showers, but overall we were able to get it all in,” said Rosenstiel. This year was the sixth summer event series hosted by the group.

Team Red won the nine-inning game 17-15 over Team Black. Members of Team Red included Brinley Roidt, Trent Wyss, Chesney Slotten, Sloane Ambrose, Ethan Rosensteil, Marcus Ott, Eli Schaefer, Lane Meier, Elsen Gratz, and Owen Gilbertson. Team Black consisted of Kaegann Paulson, Logan Meier, Blake Drafall, Karis Paulson, Aaron Benzschawel, Seth Schmidt, Keegan Dahmen, Braden Rupnow, Brandon Bassett, and Daniel Prien.

In addition to the softball game, Move It Forward also hosted a pickleball tournament at Northeast Park, a 50/50 raffle, and a back-to-school drive in which five boxes of school supplies were collected for students in the Monroe School District. Lamers Bus Line donated a bus that was used to collect the school supplies. Monroe Dairy Queen Adi Kubly handed out samples of cheese to everyone attending the softball game.

Rosenstiel said $2,400 was raised which will go to the Monroe Booster Club. Two more events will be held this summer as part of Move It Forward’s summer series. There will be a trip to a Madison Mallards game on Friday, July 31 and another pickleball tournament on Friday, August 14 at Northeast Park.
