To the Editor:
I have several concerns and questions about the Green County Land Use and Zoning board meeting in July on data centers. This is an important topic and I feel the board should hold the meeting when more working people might be able to attend — such as an evening. I also think that the residents of the county should have an opportunity to learn more about just what “kind of data center” you are referring to such as size of center, costs and increased water and power use requiring an upgrade of the current infrastructure paid for by the local taxpayers, environmental impact in loss of land, pollution, etc. These costs to the county residents are often not considered — just the increase in the tax base and potential job creations. The board should investigate how communities which already have a data center are dealing with problems and challenges created by the centers and what are the true costs to the public of such a center.
