To the Editor:
When big business came calling to rural Grant County last winter, they saw an ATC line, sweetheart tax deals from the legislature and prime farmland for their massive data center.
They did not, however, see the fight and determination of Grant County’s people. Farmers, residents, families all stood up to take ownership of their land and the right to preserve it.
In late winter, concerned citizens crammed into their meeting halls, raising voices in opposition. What to do?
Our towns and their leaders do the good work of maintaining roads and hundreds of other things never noticed. But taking on multi billionaires? Not typical.
A leader showed up with a plan, a Potosi farm girl named Lisa White. Now a mom and successful business owner, she pulled together facts, provided resources to town chairmen/clerks and helped organize the Potosi info session featuring Charlie Behrens.
Since then, Cassville, Waterloo, Bloomington and Beetown Townships have enacted a 2 year moratorium on data centers.
Leaders rise to the occasion; our elected officials were absent when we needed them most.
Lisa is the leader we need, representing our county in the 17th senate district. On August 11, vote Lisa White in the primary.
