Cheesemakers Host and Win Double Dual

The Monroe Cheesemakers hosted a double dual with Delavan-Darien and Jefferson in track on April 8 at Monroe High School. In boys, Monroe won over Delavan-Darien 134-15, and over Jefferson 119.5-26.5. In girls, the Cheesemakers defeated Delavan-Darien 115-30. Monroe also won over Jefferson 113-33.

In the boys track meet, in the 100 meter dash, junior Jy’shon Broitzman was the top finisher for the Cheesemakers, taking 2nd place in 11.69 seconds. Broitzman claimed first place in the 200 meter dash in 23.53. Junior Frank Wolf of Monroe finished 2nd in the 400 meter dash in 56.31 seconds. The Cheesemakers placed first and second in the 800 meter run with sophomore Kamrin Gerber-Reamer posting a time of  2:07.62. Sophomore Lucas Gerber was 2nd in 2:09.16. 

The boys 1600 meter run was dominated by the Cheesemakers as junior Tre Dammen was 1st in 4:35.51, senior Benjamin Erdley was 2nd in 5:01.62, and senior Pedriac Houston was 3rd in 5:02.81. The Cheesemakers did the same thing in the 3200 meter run as Dammen was 1st, Houston was 2nd, and Erdley was 3rd. Junior Will Keehn took 1st place in the 110 meter hurdles in 18.63 seconds. Frank Wolf of Monroe finished in second place in the 300 meter hurdles. 

In the relays, Monroe’s 4x100 meter relay team of Broitzman, freshman Riley Blum, junior Mekhi Brown, and junior Bradley Holst were first place finishers in a time of 45.24 seconds. 1st place in the 4x200 meter relay went to Monroe’s team of Blum, Holst, sophomore Caleb Mazahreh, and freshman Joah Wellman in 1:39.77. The 4x400 meter relay went to Monroe with Gerber, Gerber-Reamer, Mazahreh, and freshman Landon Smith taking home 1st place in 3:43.34. Another relay in which Monroe took 1st place was the 4x800 meter relay where sophomore Elija Cook, freshman Weston Huntsman, senior Kylan Ditsworth, and Smith crossed the finish line in 9:02.48. 

Monroe took first place in all of the field events as Gerber won the high jump with a jump of five feet, eight inches. Junior Kingston McNett was the first-place finisher in the pole vault as he cleared the bar at nine feet. The long jump went to senior Seth Schmidt with his jump at 19 feet, 4 inches. Schmidt also won the triple jump at 40 feet, 5.5 inches. Junior Waylon Yoder grabbed 1st place in the shot put with a toss of 49 feet, 7 inches. Junior Peyton Herbst topped the field in the discus at 122 feet, 2.5 inches.

The girls meet saw Monroe’s Miley Hanson take 2nd place in the 100 meter dash in 13.87 seconds. The junior also took 1st place in the 200 meter dash in 28.32 seconds. Junior Mya Wild was 1st in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.21. Freshman Kalen Cassidy finished in 2nd place in the 800 meter run in 2:43.13. Cassidy also took 1st place in the 1600 meter run in 5:51.24. Freshman Vicki Wolf of the Monroe Cheesemakers captured the 3200 meter run in 12:02.21. 

Senior Ella Kranig of Monroe was 1st in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.28 seconds. Junior Aniyah Jackson-Bey of Monroe placed 1st in the 300 meter hurdles in 52.75 seconds. Monroe finished in 3rd place in the 4x200 meter relay as freshman Brianna Ziolkowski, senior Ella Kranig, sophomore Aridni Acosta, junior Brooke Bunker finished in 57.97. The Cheesemakers won the 4x400 as Jackson-Bey, sophomore Maryella Green, sophomore Lyla Ritschard, and junior Anna Zentner finished the relay in 4:33.98. Monroe claimed the 4x800 meter relay with sophomore Nevaeh Huenefeld, freshman Alivia Moser, Wolf, and Green getting 1st place in 11:07.63. 

Miley Hanson of Monroe placed 1st in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet, 10 inches. Hanson also took 3rd place in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet, 4.5 inches. Jackson-Bey was the 2nd place finisher in the triple jump with a jump of 30 feet, 8 inches. The shot put got the Monroe Cheesemakers another 1st place finish as junior Kira Schmidt got off a toss of 26 feet, 3.5 inches. Schmidt also was 1st in the discus with a throw of 75 feet, 8.5 inches.
