NEW GLARUS - The pep talks that New Glarus-Monticello coach Desie Breadon is giving during the week must have been taken to heart by his players.
For the second straight week, the Glarner Knights capped a second-half rally with a comeback 12-7 win over Watertown Luther Prep Friday night. New Glarus-Monticello senior quarterback Gabe Noyce scored two second-half touchdowns to propel the Knights to the victory. Noyce scored on a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter to cut Luther Prep's lead to 7-6. He then tossed a 19-yard game-winning TD pass to senior Jesse Halvorsen in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
"We started off a little slow again tonight," Breadon said. "We came back in the second half strong. The big thing we talked about this week was persistence. We definitely showed it all night."
Noyce rushed for 77 yards on 12 carries and scored one touchdown. The Knights limited Luther Prep to just 118 total yards including just 72 on the ground.
Pec-Argyle 46, River Ridge 6
RIVER RIDGE - The Vikings' offense continued to roll behind senior quarterback Jon Hendrickson.
Hendrickson racked up 335 total yards (261 passing yards, 77 rushing yards) and he scored six touchdowns. Hendrickson connected with sophomore Drew Schliem on a 41-yard TD pass in the first quarter. He then scored on a 1-yard TD run to give the Vikings a 14-0 lead. In the second quarter, Hendrickson then hit junior Alec Treuthardt for a 71-yard TD pass and Nathan Loyd on a 70-yard TD pass. He connected again with Treuthardt on a 43-yard TD pass to give the Vikings an insurmountable 33-0 halftime lead. Treuthardt had four receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
Pecatonica-Argyle (2-0) has scored 99 points in its first two games. The Vikings will get a big test when they host Potosi in Blanchardville next week.
Darlington 40, Riverdale 0
RIVERDALE - Darlington senior Storm Wiegel rushed for 123 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Redbirds to the win.
The Redbirds (1-1, 1-0 SWAL) piled up 264 total rushing yards. The Redbirds limited Riverdale to just 98 rushing yards.
Darlington's Myles Leahy rushed for 92 yards on 12 carries and scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter. Darlington sophomore Cole McDonald was 2-of-5 passing for 13 yards.
Highland 27, Black Hawk 21
HIGHLAND - The Warriors carried a 21-12 lead into the fourth quarter, but couldn't hang on against Six Rivers Conference rival Highland.
The Cardinals (2-0) scored 15 fourth-quarter points to stun Black Hawk, which drops to 0-2.
Black Hawk had six penalties for 61 yards and Highland was also plagued by penalties (nine for 75 yards). The Warriors had three turnovers for the second straight game.
Black Hawk senior Logan Stietz rushed for 81 yards on nine carries and scored one touchdown. Senior quarterback Merik Meythaler completed 12 of 19 passes for 118 yards and tossed one interception. Kyle Walters had four receptions for 60 yards to lead the Warriors.
Highland's Bailey Bodenstein threw four touchdowns to lead the Cardinals.
