Early History of Green County presentation coming June 20

A Glimpse Back In Time, The Pictorial History of Monroe, and the Monroe, Wisconsin Pictorial History are three books published by the Green County Historical Society and picture many of the area’s historical scenes. The photo on the cover of the blue book is of the first high school located where the old Lincoln School stood. The pictorial histories are $25 each. The shiny pages are well done with captions describing each picture. The Glimpse book, at $15, is from the William F. Trukenbrod collection of glass negatives taken in the early 20th century around Monroe. They would make wonderful gifts for the historical buff in your family. Other historical books, items and Society memberships are also for sale at the museum. MONROE — The Green County Historical Society is presenting “Green County, its first history” on June 20 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Historical Society Museum and at the Monroe Public Library.

The Museum will be open for that time. The library community room will open at 9:30 a.m. for the 10 a.m. presentation of “Green County Archaeology: From Wooly Mammoths to Lead Badgers” with Kevin Akemann. It will close until 12:30 p.m., when it will once again open for the Green County on the Eve of White Settlement, 1815-1832: Native People, Lead Mining, and More with Patrick Jung.

Throughout the day before and after the presentations, Brian Diehl will be demonstrating “The Art of Flint Knapping”. Exhibits of Rock Collections, Native American Artifacts, and more from attending exhibitors. Feel free to bring personal items for identification assistance. No sales or appraisals.

The museum will be open throughout the day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
