Dixie Ann Hoover, age 71, of Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at her home. She was born on November 22, 1946, the daughter of Andrew and Arlene (Duchow) Hartwig-Sharer in Monroe. She was a graduate of Juda High School. Dixie was united in marriage to Larry Hoover in 1968, together they had a daughter, Tammie, they later divorced in 1972. Dixie united with her significant other, Dan “Jake” Jacobs in 1982 and have been together ever since.
Dixie was a legal secretary for Knoke, Ingebritson, and Kind Law Office, and an executive secretary for the president of Monroe Truck Equipment. She was also a secretary for The Monroe Clinic; prior to that she had lived in Illinois where she worked at Brooks Instrument.
She made friends with everyone no matter how old or young they were or where she was. She lit up a room when she walked into it. And, she had the most brilliant smile and infectious laugh. She was highly intelligent and very passionate about helping people. She always made sure her appearance was polished, whether at the office or out with friends. When she was younger, she was an avid softball player (winning the city championship and making a triple play) and bowler (went to state and national tournaments several times). She could beat some of the best players on a pool table. She had a fabulous garden and multiple beautiful flower beds. She had many hobbies including playing slots, camping, fishing even though she hated worms, playing cards and listening and dancing to the oldies – whether out with friends or in the kitchen. She could speed-shift when racing a hot rod, too, allowing her to win many races.
She is survived by her significant other of 35 years, Dan “Jake” Jacobs of Monroe; daughter, Tammie (Jim Bandt) Smiley of Monroe; step-son, Josh (Ashley Keller) Jacobs; grandchildren, Stephanie (fiancé Brandon Frontz) Hoover of Madison and Christopher (Shay Hodson) Smiley of Black Earth; sisters, Glenda (Wyllie McMicken) Wyss of Monroe, Patricia (Larry) Schwartz of Monroe, and Brenda (Don) Strozewski of Wisconsin Rapids; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Michael Sharer; and son-in-law, Richard Smiley.
