JUDA — There were no injuries reported in a rural Juda chimney fire Sept. 8 that ended in a total loss of the Greenbush Rd. home, Juda fire chief Steve Isely said.
The fire was called in at approximately 8:30 p.m. and was not fully extinguished by crews until approximately 3 a.m.
Juda fire requested help from surrounding fire departments using the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System at level two. Eight departments responded to the call: Albany, Brodhead, Browntown, Evansville, Monticello, New Glarus, Orangeville and Orfordville.
The homeowners were at the residence at the time of the fire, Isely said. They were able to make it to safety with their family pets, which then stayed in the car until they could be moved to safety.
An excavator was called in to help fire fighters extinguish the fire when the building had sustained too much damage to consider it safe to send in fire fighters.
Firefighters from Juda, Brodhead, Albany, Evansville, Orfordville, New Glarus, Monticello, Orangeville and Browntown responded. Green Country EMS also responded.
