National Historic Cheesemaking Center: First Cheese Days Queen

Marion Burgy of Monticello was the first Cheese Days Queen, reigning at the sixth Cheese Day festival on Oct. 2, 1923. Monroe was first promoted as the "Swiss Cheese Capital of the USA" during this time. Bands from Monroe, Browntown, Brodhead and New Glarus provided entertainment.
