Monroe’s July 4 celebration returns

MONROE — The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is making plans for its annual July 4th Celebration to be held in Twining Park on Sunday, July 4. 

There will be a fire truck for kids to sit in, Kiwanis pony rides from 1-4 p.m.; Lion’s Club petting zoo 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and carnival games from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The City Band concert will be at 8 p.m.

The City of Monroe Fireworks will be shot off at around 9:30 p.m. and concluding with The Wisconsin Bank & Trust Sky Concert fireworks display. Spectators can come to the park to watch fireworks this year. The department wishes to Thank Wisconsin Bank & Trust for the donation for the Sky Concert, as well as Colony Brands and the Cliff & Dorothy Reasa Charitable Fund of the Monroe Fund for their donations to the fireworks also.  

The co-ed slow-pitch tournament will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the co-ed volleyball tournament from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Teams can still register for the tournaments by contacting Matt Skibba at 329-2466.  

The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for volunteers to help out in the carnival. All volunteers get a free July 4 t-shirt.

For Carnival games, shifts are 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., 12:45 to 3 p.m. and 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. Children volunteering to work carnival games should be accompanied by an adult. Anyone interested in volunteering for any of these shifts can contact the Park and Recreation Department at 329-2465.
