MONROE — The National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) is proud to announce that Carol Ochsner, a dedicated and inspiring educator at Monroe High School, has been awarded the Outstanding Earth Science Teacher (OEST) Award for the state of Wisconsin. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional contributions to the stimulation of interest in the Earth Sciences at the pre-college level.
“On behalf of the entire School District of Monroe, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Carol for being honored with the prestigious Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Award from the National Association of Geoscience Teachers,” said interim district superintendent Joe Monroe. “This is an extraordinary accomplishment that speaks volumes about Carol’s passion, dedication, and excellence in Earth Science education.”
Carol has demonstrated excellence in teaching by engaging students with innovative and hands-on learning experiences that bring the wonders of Earth Science to life. Their commitment to fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of the Earth Sciences has made a significant impact on their students and the broader educational community.
Meghan L. Cook, Ph.D., of Purdue University Northwest is Committee Chair of the OEST and member of NAGT. She told MHS Principal Jeriamy Jackson that the award not just shines a light on Ochsner, but the school as a whole.
“This award not only reflects positively on Carol but also brings honor and prestige to Monroe High School,” Cook said. “It highlights the school’s commitment to providing high-quality education in the field of Earth Science and showcases the caliber of educators within the institution.”
The OEST Award, adopted by NAGT in 1971, aims to identify and reward excellence in teaching and to stimulate higher levels of teaching performance. Carol’s achievement exemplifies these objectives and highlights the importance of quality Earth Science education.
“Carol’s achievement is not only a significant personal milestone, but it also stands as a testament to the high standards of teaching and learning at Monroe High School. Her innovative approach and unwavering commitment to inspiring curiosity and scientific inquiry in her students exemplify the very best of our schools,” Monroe added. “We are incredibly proud to have Carol as part of our team, and this national recognition reflects the caliber of educators who lead our schools every day. She is truly worthy of this honor.”
