MONROE — A Madison couple and 6-year-old boy were injured in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening south of Brodhead, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred at about 6:10 p.m. in the N2400 block of County T, Town of Spring Grove. The Brodhead Fire Department and Brodhead EMS responded with deputies to the scene.

Marlena L. Ray, 27, was southbound when her vehicle entered the west ditch, hit a tree and continued into a field before coming to rest.

She sustained serious injuries in the crash and had to be extricated by firefighters from the vehicle, according to the release from Sgt. Allen Peters. She was taken to Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville.

Her passenger and husband, Richard C. Ray, 38, and a 6-year-old passenger also sustained injuries and were transported to the same hospital.

The Rays reported wearing their seatbelts, but the boy was not properly secured in a child safety seat. The vehicle’s airbags did not deploy. It sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

The accident remained under investigation the following day and no citations had been issued, according to the sheriff’s office.
