MONROE — Monroe Balloon & Blues Festival has announced that Klondike Cheese Company is again the major crown sponsor of this year’s Balloon and Blues Festival, planned for June 14 and 15 at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe.

The very top of a hot air balloon is called the crown, and Klondike Cheese is on top when it comes to making award-winning cheese. This fourth-generation family business has cheesemaking roots dating back to 1925, when Swiss immigrants Ernest and Marie Buholzer began making big wheels of Swiss at the factory just west of Monroe.

In addition to Feta cheese and a line of Greek yogurt, the Buholzer Family also produces muenster, brick and havarti cheese under the “Buholzer Brother’s” label named for the family’s trio of Wisconsin Master Cheesemakers: Ron, Dave and Steve Buholzer, grandsons of Ernest and Marie and sons of Alvin and Rosa Buholzer.

Originally just for wholesale, Buholzer Brother’s cheese will soon be in grocery store coolers.

The 2019 Monroe Balloon and Blues Festival is presented by The Arc of Green County, an organization with a mission to advocate for and support opportunities and general enjoyment of life for those with special needs. Proceeds from parking on the grounds and from the beer and wine stand will go toward projects supported by The Arc.
