Hazardous chemical deadline March 1

MONROE - The Green County Emergency Management office reminds business owners who handle, manufacture, or use hazardous chemicals that it's time to file Tier II inventory forms.

The filing deadline for 2010 hazardous chemical inventory is March 1.

Wisconsin Emergency Management has implemented a web-based EPCRA reporting system and the Tier II reporting forms will not be mailed out to the facilities this year.

This system, Wisconsin Haz-Mat Online Planning and Reporting System (WHOPRS), and can be found online at https://whoprs.wisconsin.gov.

This system provides annual Tier II filing, as well as planning data and can be updated throughout the year. Facilities were notified about this new system in December and must register before they can enter their chemical inventories. Anyone who did not a letter or needs assistance should call Tanna McKeon at the Green County Emergency Management office at 328-9416.

Businesses, agencies, facilities or manufacturers that have threshold quantities of hazardous chemicals or extremely hazardous substances, identified under the Superfund Title III, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), will need to report.

They must report their inventory if it exceeds a threshold of 10,000 or more pounds of a hazardous substance or there is an extremely hazardous substance at or above the threshold planning quantity or 500 pounds (whichever is lower).

Facilities with reportable quantities that have fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees are exempt from paying fees, but must still complete required reports.
