Roger Lee Schwaiger
DEATH NOTICE

Roger Lee Schwaiger passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 14, 2026, in Ridgecrest, California, watching the sunrise with his brother, Robert ("Bob") Schwaiger, by his side. He was 94 years old.

Roger was born on August 1, 1931, in Monroe, Wisconsin. He attended Madison Area Technical College, earning a degree in Accounting. He proudly served for 25 years in the Wisconsin Army National Guard Reserve, demonstrating the sense of duty and service that remained with him throughout his life.

In the late 1970s, Roger moved to Napa Valley, California, to join his brother, Jerome William Schwaiger, in building custom wooden wine boxes at Napa Valley Products during the formative years of the modern Napa Valley wine industry. He remained connected to the wine business throughout his career, working with companies that supplied corks, glass bottles, barrels, and trucking services, supporting the continued growth of California's renowned wine industry.

A true jack of all trades, Roger enjoyed working with his hands and learning new skills. When he wasn't behind the wheel of a truck, he could often be found at Napa County Airport pursuing his passion for aviation. He was a licensed pilot and part owner of a historic Piper Tri-Pacer aircraft.

Roger was a lifelong Episcopalian whose faith guided his life. His church home was Grace Episcopal Church in St. Helena, California, where he was actively involved in parish life. One of the ministries closest to his heart was bringing Holy Communion to homebound members, sharing the sacrament, companionship, and worship with those unable to attend church. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and formed a special friendship with the Rev. Mac McClure. Whether assisting with church projects or quietly keeping an eye on the length of Fr. Mac's sermons with his characteristic good humor, Roger found joy in serving his church family.

In his later years, Roger especially enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with his family. Wherever life took him, the three things he treasured most remained constant: his family, his church, and his beloved dogs.

Roger never sought recognition for the things he did. He simply believed that if something needed to be done, you rolled up your sleeves and did it. Whether caring for family, serving his church, helping a friend, or fixing something that was broken, he lived a life of quiet faith, humble service, and enduring love. His example will continue to guide those who were blessed to know him.

Roger is survived by his brothers, Jerome William Schwaiger and Robert ("Bob") Schwaiger, and their families.

A Celebration of Life honoring Roger's life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 1314 Spring Street, St. Helena, California. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grace Episcopal Church in St. Helena, California, in Roger's memory.
