The Division 4 South squad pulled out an 89-74 victory over the Division 4 North team behind a very balanced attack that saw six players from the South score at least nine points in the Division 4 WBCA Girls game at Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells on Wednesday June 4.
The Division 4 South team was coached by Mike Flanagan of Darlington and assisted by Kelly Rose of Darlington and Kaylee Flanagan of Black Hawk.
Sadie Goebel of Darlington played in the game but did not score. Toria Devoe of Belleville and Maddie Gratz of Darlington each scored seven points. Molly Olson of Albany-Monticello scored 11 points, and Allie Dahl of Brodhead had 12 points for the South.
“You’ve got so many different kids who are able to score in a variety of ways and I was most proud of how they played together and they played hard throughout (the game) and made tough plays. These kids bought into team basketball, they got the loose balls, they rebounded, and they did things the right way,” said Flanagan.
Dahl said she had a lot of fun playing in the All-Star game and came away with a positive experience.
“It was fun to meet new people and it’s definitely cool to meet a bunch of new people and play together and learn to play with other people and create new bonds,” said Dahl, who plans to play college basketball at Ashland University in Ohio.
Olson was happy to play another game in her Monticello-Albany jersey. “It’s been a great time. It’s really fun to put on the jersey one last time from high school ball,” said Olson, who will play college basketball at Lawrence University in Appleton. Olson was also the top fundraiser among all players and coaches at the All-Star games, raising more than $7,000 for various charities.
In the Division 5 All-Star game, the South took a 43-20 halftime lead and routed the North, 85-51. Kylie Butler of Argyle-Pecatonica scored nine points for the South.
