Karen R. Nufer age 59 of Monroe, died on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Monroe Clinic Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 16, 1953 in Geneva, IL, the daughter of Charles and Constance (Miller) Gaylord. Karen and Daniel Nufer were married on July 15, 1989 in Wilmington, NC. Karen graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village Kansas. She received her bachelor's degree from Chapman University in Orange, CA in organizational leadership.

Karen owned and operated Curves for Women since 2008 where she enjoyed her work dearly. She was a member of Juda Zion United Methodist Church, active with Relay for Life, Cheese Days Committee, enjoyed traveling, reading and loved spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Dan Nufer of Monroe; father, Charles Gaylord of Arbor Vitae, WI; mother, Constance Cedrone of Mountain Home, AR; sons, James (Jessica) Steele Copperas Cove, TX; Jason Steele, Fort Levenworth, KS; sister, Jeanette Eidson of Mountain Home, AR; and 8 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Juda Zion United Methodist Church in Juda, with Rev. Vicki Brantmeyer officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave. in Monroe.
