Judith E. Wilke, 74, Durand, Illinois, our loving mother and friend, went home to our Lord Savior in Heaven, following her battle with lung cancer on Friday, December 5, 2014.
Judith Evelyn Wilke was born March 12th, 1940, in Chicago, IL. Judy, a resident of Durand, IL, while retired remained very active in her community through her church, Trinity Lutheran, the Otter Creek Historical Society, Lady Landowners of Winnebago County (IL), and recently as the Laona Township Cemetery sexton. She was active as well in many other organizations throughout her years in the Durand community, and other communities prior.
Mrs. Wilke was an educator by profession, and a lifelong and steadfast friend and mentor to many. Teaching first in the late 60's at Black Hawk High School, South Wayne, WI, while a resident of rural Wiota, WI, then at Argyle High School and School District, later moving to Argyle, WI. She married Roy Wilke in 1988, moving to Durand, IL. She taught at Freeport Junior High School from 1988 to 1998, retiring thereafter. Judy loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, riding ATV's and gardening. As a youth she attended Peck Elementary School, then Gage Park High School in Chicago, IL. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1962 from Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL, and her Masters of Science in Teaching (English Major) from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1976.
Judy is survived by four children - Jay Schulte (and grandson Dane) of Durand, IL; Lisa Daane (and granddaughters Monica, Melissa and Miranda) of Greenville, WI; Joe Schulte ( and wife Karen, granddaughters Erin (Matt) Meyer, Ali (Tristan) Dressler and Casey (Brian) Parker) of Saukville, WI, and Jon Schulte (wife Shelley, grandson Alex and granddaughter Dana) of Holmen, WI; six great-grandchildren and her sister, Janice Dabrowski, of Punta Gorda Isles, FL. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Wilke, her father and mother, Edward J. and Vlasta J. (Rebersky) Madura, of Chicago, IL, and by a nephew, Keith Dabrowski, of St. Petersburg, FL.
Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2014 in Trinity Lutheran Church, 15585 Durand Road, Durand, Illinois with Pastor Pat Esker officiating. Burial will be in South Rock Run Lutheran Cemetery, Durand, Illinois. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home-Durand Chapel, 101 Main Street, Durand, Illinois, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 10 and again at the church from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
