Alvin Kubly, age 97 of Monroe, Wisconsin, died peacefully on July 9, 2016. He was born August 11, 1918 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Martin and Magdalena Kubly. He married Lucille Marion Rees on February 7, 1948.

He was a 1936 graduate of Monroe High School and a 1942 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Dairy Science. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He served as a supply officer in the Medical Corps, attaining the rank of Captain. He was awarded the American Bronze Star, Asiatic Theatre Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and served in the Reserves until 1953.

Alvin was the General Manager of the Monroe operation of Frito-Lay, Inc. and retired from Frito-Lay after 29 years, after which he worked for the Monroe Cheese Corporation for 12 years.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Monroe, Zilmer-Riley American Legion, V.F.W., Moose Lodge, Toothless Tigers and the Monroe Country Club. He was Trustee of the Greenwood Cemetery Association and member of the Monroe Police & Fire Association. He was past President of the United Way, volunteer driver for the Apostolate to the Handicapped and President of the Church Council of St John's United Church of Christ.

Alvin is survived by his son, William (Myrna) Kubly of Lincoln, NE., daughters Wendy (Lannie) Ratliff of Little Elm, TX., and Dawn Kubly (Ron Buss) of Cambridge, WI., grandchildren: Paige (Jim) Flynn, Lauren (John) Pugliese, Matthew Buss and Myles Buss, as well as great grandchildren Ava Flynn, Sophie Flynn and Jack Flynn.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lucy, his mother and father Martin and Magdalena Kubly, and his brother Leon Kubly.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ or the Boy Scouts of America-Blackhawk Council.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1724 14th Street, Monroe, WI. A visitation will be held between 10:30 and 12:00 at the church, prior to the service. Shriner Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
