TOWN OF EXETER — A Dec. 1 fire needed 36,000 gallons of water to put out and caused about $1 million in damage.
Belleville Fire and EMS were dispatched at 12:15 a.m. on Dec. 1 to the 8500 block of County D in the Town of Exeter (Green County) for a reported non-dwelling structure fire.
First arriving units found a commercial storage building heavily involved with fire. The building was approximately 50 feet wide by 70 feet long.
Upon arrival, Belleville Command requested a MABAS box alarm BL 4-2, bringing mutual aid resources from New Glarus, Mount Horeb, Fitchburg, Brooklyn, Monticello, Verona, Oregon, McFarland, Lakeside and Evansville Fire Departments. Fitchrona and Belleville EMS were also on scene assisting in firefighter rehab.
The weather conditions at the time of the fire were reportedly in the single digits with wind chill.
Fire units put down over 800 feet of hose and used approximately 36,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. The building and contents are believed to be a total loss. There were no injuries reported to civilians or fire fighters.
Damage is estimated at $1 million. The cause is undetermined and under further investigation.
