Monticello FFA team advances to national land-judging contest

MONTICELLO - The Monticello FFA Senior Soils Judging Team competed in the State FFA Land Judging Contest on Aug. 25 near Sun Prairie.

The contest was held during the Farm Technology Days event and was hosted by the Dan Kvalheim family.

The senior team consisted of Marissa Peterson, Brittany Disch, Erin Lehr and Madalyn Holtz. The top five qualifying teams have the opportunity to advance to the National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, next May. The team finished in fourth place with a total score of 843, allowing the team to advance to nationals for the third year in a row.

Disch was the leading scorer for the team and the highest overall finisher with a score of 322, winning a first-place trophy.

Soils judging measures a student's ability to determine soil fertility, slope and runoff, texture and structure, land classification, and best land-use practices.
