OK, first off, no one told me when I signed on that I would be devoting a good portion of m y life to watching American Idol. Three nights a week? Two hours per night for two of those nights? I do have a life, however lame, besides watching television, you know.
Anyway, I get the feeling I am the only person in America who loathes Carly Smithson. Paula called her voice tender ya right, as tender as a guillotine. Her voice is shrill and grating and her tattoo sleeve is highly unattractive. I find nothing appealing about her at all.
Then theres the little issue of her having a recording contract a number of years ago. I read on a blog last week that her record company put out the album, promoted it but it still fell flat a little different than the story Carly told last night about her record company imploding on itself. Regardless, anyone who has had a previous recording contract should NOT be eligible for Idol. Its supposed to be about finding NEW talent, not resurrecting careers that never really got off the ground.
Disappointed in Joanne and Kady and Kristi Lee I liked all of them going in, but their performances were so-so. Brooke seems like shes really, really old, not 24 but I kinda like her no R-movie-watching self. Amy Davis was downright lame and off key. Amanda, the rock and roll nurse, is OK, but her song choice was pure TORTURE lets see something other than a Janis Joplin impersonation.
In fact all the ladies seemed a little so-so last night a little off key, nothing special. So much that I got the laptop out to catch up on some email while the ladies were singing.
Then Alexandrea came out holy cow! That got me to set the laptop aside. Likewise, I thought Asiah and Ramiele did very well.
But Syesha thats my girl! I think shes super cute and has a great personality, fantastic voice and love her on stage. Love her and will be rooting for her all the way.
Two that should go: Amy and Carly (lame and lamer)
And Paula and Randy should go to. They are both useless as judges. Give us two more REAL critics like Simon.
