MONROE - The Monroe High School girls track and field team showed its depth in the triple jump Friday in the Simpson Relays.

Monroe senior Abby Oudinot, junior Alicia Kuester and junior Whitney Wells combined for a distance of 91 feet, 1 inch to win the triple jump. Both Oudinot and Kuester eclipsed 30 feet. Oudinot had a jump of 33-21⁄2 and Kuester cleared 30-5.

"Kuester continues to improve and get better," Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis said. "We have a nice duo with Oudinot and Kuester. Whitney stepped up when we needed her. They had a great night triple jumping."

Stoughton captured the Simpson Relays team title, racking up 89 points to finish ahead of runner-up Monona Grove (76). Monroe took fourth (64), just one point behind Oregon (65). Darlington placed fifth (58) at the seven-team relay meet.

"We are starting to see some of our depth," Davis said. "A lot of the teams we ran against are conference teams we are hanging with. This is a fun meet and a good time to practice as a team."

Darlington won three events, the pole vault (23-6), shot put (87-71⁄2) and discus (282-6).

The Cheesemakers' 800-meter relay team of senior Isabel Bazley, Oudinot, junior Josie Eberle and freshman Cammi Ganshert placed second in a time of 1 minute, 48.07 seconds. It marked the fastest 800 relay time this year for the Cheesemakers.

"It's a great time," Davis said. "That is huge for us."

The same quartet finished second in the 800 medley relay. Eberle and Oudinot each ran 100-meter dashes in the relay and then Ganshert ran a 200 followed by Bazley who ran the 400 anchor leg. The quartet finished in 1:54.87.

"Everyone got to run to their strength," Davis said.

The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team of Rachel Meier, Mya Waterman, Kati Symons and Allyce Fahrney finished third (10:35.94).

"It's a better time than last year at this time," Davis said.

Symons teamed with Sydney Mathiason, Stephanie Sanft and Meier to take third in the distance medley relay (13:58.13). The Cheese-makers' 1,600 relay team of Bazley, Ganshert, Waterman and Casey Rielly took third with a season-best time of 4:18.06. The Cheesemakers also took third in the high jump with a trio of Mathiason, Faith Koester and Eberle. Both Mathiason and Eberle set personal-records, clearing 4-10.
