DARLINGTON - The Darlington-Cuba City girls golf team ran away and won a quad on their home course by 15 strokes on Monday.

The Redbirds shot a 185, outdistancing Lancaster (200), Mount Horeb (216) and Southwestern (225) at the Darlington Country Club. Darlington junior Sami Poss earned medalist honors shooting a 45.

Poss hit her first shot out of bounds, but it didn't take long for her to rebound.

"She really came back and played well," Darlington-Cuba City golf coach Gary Ringen said. "I'm happy with the way she played. It seems like we are having different girls taking turns for medalist honors. We have a number of girls. We don't have to rely on just one girl to be a medalist."

Seniors Naomi Black and Nikki Zimmerman each carded a 46. Senior Kayla Paquette finished with a 48.

"Any time you shoot under 200, it's really good," Ringen said.

The Redbirds best score this season for nine holes is 181. Ringen is looking forward to the Redbirds making another run at setting a new course record.

Darlington-Cuba City will be back in action on Wednesday at the Prairie du Chien Invitational.
