WHITEWATER — Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus and member of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s track and field team, was selected Academic All-America second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Zimmerman, a senior, earned his second straight Academic All-America honor after being named to the third team in 2019. He graduated with a bachelor’s in accounting and carried a 3.96 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Junior Quinn Halversen (Rockford, Ill./Christian) carries a 4.00 GPA and is majoring in supply chain and operations management. He is a first-time selection.
Both Zimmerman and Halversen garnered first team Academic All-District accolades last month.
Zimmerman, a two-year captain, qualified for the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put, placing 17th overall. He finished with four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference medals (top eight), including three in the shot put and one in the weight throw.
Zimmerman was a three-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree and a 2019-20 UW-Whitewater Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete.
Halversen, a 2020 captain, was also a qualifier for the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships, where he placed ninth in the high jump. He is a four-time top-eight conference placer in the high jump, including a fourth-place finish at the 2020 WIAC Indoor Championships.
Halversen is a three-time winner of the team’s GPA of the Year Award. He is a two-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and a 2019 USTFCCCA All-Academic selection.
