Losing streak hits four for Cheesemakers

WHITEWATER — The Whitewater Whippets built up a 7-0 lead to defeat the Monroe Cheesemakers 8-5 in an error-filled RVC-Valley softball game on Thursday, May 7.

The Whippets got to Kaegann Paulson for seven runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. The Cheesemakers committed five errors which led to four unearned runs. Maddie Ruegsegger pitched 2.2 innings in relief and allowed one run on two hits.

Whitewater committed six errors themselves, which led to three unearned runs for Monroe.

The Cheesemakers tried to battle back, scoring three runs in the fifth inning and two more runs in the sixth inning but came up short.

Ivie Ellenson went 2x4 and drove in a run and leadoff hitter Jayde Hawkinson got on base twice with a hit and a walk and scored two runs for the Cheesemakers. Monroe also got RBIs from Paizley Kundert and Kaya Holverson.

Clinton 9, Monroe 1

CLINTON — A six-run fourth inning by the Clinton Cougars sent the Monroe the Monroe Cheesemakers to their fourth straight loss, 9-1 on Friday, May 8 in a Rock Valley crossover game.

Jayde Hawkinson got the Cheesemakers’ only extra-base hit of the game, a double in the first inning, but was left stranded. The Cheesemakers were held scoreless until Hawkinson scored on Kaegann Paulson’s base hit with two outs in the seventh inning.

Outside of Hawkinson’s two hits, Monroe could only get singles by Maddie Ruegsegger, Paizley Kundert, Jade Tran, and Annika Folk.

Monroe (13-8, 5-6 RVC-Valley) has a home conference game scheduled on Tuesday, May 12 against East Troy.

Brodhead 11, Evansville 1

Senior catcher Karli Krumwiede had one of her best games this season, going 4x4 with four RBIs and to lead Brodhead to an 11-1 RVC-Rock win in six innings over Evansville on Thursday, May 7.

Shortstop Elise Rear was 3x3 with a triple and scored three runs while Mady Henning gave up just one run on eight hits and had four strikeouts and no walks in six innings.

The Cardinals put the game away with six runs over the final two innings.

Jefferson 4, Brodhead 1

The Jefferson Eagles kept the Brodhead Cardinals off the scoreboard until the 5th inning and allowed only one run while beating the Cardinals 4-1 in a Rock Valley crossover game on Friday, May 8.

The Eagles got two runs in the first inning off Cardinals pitcher Mady Henning, then added single runs in the sixth and seventh to turn away the Cardinals.

Brodhead got just two hits off Jefferson pitcher Natalie Weber. Keegan Steinke scored the only run for Brodhead in the fifth inning when she singled, reached second on a sacrifice, and scored on Elliemay Allen’s base hit.

Brodhead (10-4-1) played against Fennimore and Cuba City at the Belmont Tournament on Saturday, May 9.

Monticello-New Glarus 8, River Ridge 1

Shortstop Molly Olson went 2x2 with an RBI and two runs scored and Brooke Ryan was 3x4 with a double, an RBI, and scored two runs to help the Monticello-New Glarus Ponies get an 8-1 win over the River Ridge Timberwolves on Friday, May 8 in a Six Rivers game.

Heidi Olson pitched a three-hitter and allowed just one run with a walk and seven strikeouts. At the plate, Heidi Olson also had a double and a run scored.

Monticello-New Glarus (12-3, 6-1) played a Six Rivers game at Barneveld on Monday, May 11.

Juda-Albany 1, River Ridge 0

Aubrey McCullough scored the game’s only run in the third inning as Jubany slipped by River Ridge 1-0 in a Six Rivers game on Thursday, May 7.

McCullough got on with one out in the third inning with a base hit. McCullough stole second and scored on Ryleigh Brown’s single to center.

Brown and Emerson Briggs combined to pitch a four-hit shutout. Together, they struck out 10 batters.

Barneveld 12, Juda-Albany 0 (5 innings)

The Barneveld Golden Eagles went off for seven runs in the fifth inning to pull away with a 12-0 win over the Juda-Albany Panthers in a Six Rivers game on Friday, May 8. The decision halted Jubany’s seven-game winning streak.

Barneveld led 5-0 through four innings, then sent 12 batters to the plate in the fifth inning, tacking on seven more runs. Meanwhile, Jubany could only collect two hits, one by Emersen Butts, and the other by Emerson Briggs.

Jubany (12-5-1, 9-3 Six Rivers) traveled to Belmont for a conference game on Monday, May 11.

Darlington 8, Southwestern 1

The Redbirds made it a season sweep over the Wildcats with an 8-1 win on Thursday, May 7 in SWAL softball.

Left fielder Isabelle Winkers and SS Maicy Norgard each had two RBIs while RF Chloe O’Brien and pitcher Sydney Wiegel each hit a double. Wiegel pitched all seven innings and allowed one run on seven hits with no walks and 12 strikeouts.

Darlington (4-11, 2-7 SWAL) hosted Fennimore in a conference game on Monday, May 11.

Wisconsin Heights 9, Belleville 7

The Wisconsin Heights Vanguards had just enough to hold on to a 9-7 win over the Belleville Wildcats in Capitol South softball on Thursday, May 7.

After the Vanguards had taken a 9-4 lead with four runs in the fifth inning, the Wildcats scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but it wasn’t enough.

Brynn Prochaska and Nora Christensen hit home runs for the Wildcats.

Belleville 22, Edgerton 13

Story Fossum went 4x5 with a double and drove in five runs to lead the Belleville Wildcats in a 22-13 slugfest over the Edgerton Crimson Tide in nonconference softball on Friday, May 8.

The Wildcats scored 10 of their 22 runs over the fourth and fifth innings. Bryn Prochaska was 3x6 with a double and four RBIs and Ava Chapman went 3x5 and scored four runs for Belleville.

Belleville (5-14) had another nonconference home game scheduled on Tuesday, May 12 against Delavan-Darien.

Potosi-Cassville 12, Pecatonica 7

Kiaya York hit a home run and drove in two runs, but Potosi-Cassville broke open a tight game with five runs in the fifth inning to claim a 12-7 win over the Pecatonica Vikings in Six Rivers action on Friday, May 8.

Gretta Schraepfer had two hits including a double and drove in a run while Lila Schlimgen went 2x3 and scored a run for the Vikings.

Pecatonica (2-11, 2-6 Six Rivers) were scheduled to host Barneveld in a conference game on Tuesday, May 12.
