MONROE — Leadoff hitter Eli Schaefer hit a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a four-run rally and give the Monroe Cheesemakers a 7-6 win over the Big Foot Chiefs in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game on Thursday, May 7.
The Cheesemakers trailed 6-3 to start the inning. Zane Seffrood and Logan Meier reached on a fielder’s choice. Ian Berg walked and Kaiden Rieder got a base hit, scoring Meier. Tyler Briggs was hit by a pitch, and Sky Steinmann was hit by a pitch, which drove in Berg. Schaefer singled to center to score Briggs and Rieder to give the Cheesemakers a come from behind win.
Meier was 2x4 with three RBIs and Schaefer went 2x5 and drove in two runs for the Cheesemakers.
Clinton 6, Monroe 3
A four-run first inning put the Clinton Cougars in the driver’s seat to get a 6-3 win over the Cheesemakers in a Rock Valley crossover game on Friday, May 8.
Zane Seffrood was 1x3 with a double and two RBIs for the Cheesemakers. Tyler Briggs was 2x3 and scored a run for Monroe.
Oregon 12, Monroe 8
Oregon 20, Monroe 3
The Cheesemakers dropped a doubleheader to the Oregon Panthers, 12-8 and 20-3 at Oregon on Saturday, May 9.
In the first game, the Panthers scored five runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to pull away after the Cheesemakers had gotten to within 4-3 in the third inning.
Zane Seffrood got two hits and drove in two run and Trent Wyss hit a double and scored three runs to lead Monroe.
In the second game, the Panthers built up a 7-3 lead in the sixth inning and exploded for 13 unanswered runs, including a 10-run seventh inning to come up with a 20-3 win over the Cheesemakers.
A triple by Eli Schaefer gave Monroe a brief 3-2 lead in the second inning, but it was all Oregon after that. Schaefer had two of Monroe’s four hits. Logan Meier and Zane Seffrood got the other two hits for the Cheesemakers.
Monroe (3-13-1) traveled to Portage to meet the Warriors in a nonconference game scheduled on Monday, May 11.
East Troy 13, Brodhead-Juda 3
The East Troy Trojans dumped the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals 13-3 in five innings in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game on Thursday, May 7.
After taking a 7-0 lead, the Trojans scored six runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach. Manny Bueno, Dylan Ross, and Will Searls each had a hit and an RBI for the Cardinals.
Brodhead-Juda (5-8) played at Jefferson in a Rock Valley conference crossover game on Friday May 8.
Jefferson 9, Brodhead-Juda 6
The Cardinals had a 5-4 lead after the top of the fifth inning against Jefferson, but the Eagles put together a five-run fifth inning to beat the Cardinals 9-6 in a Rock Valley crossover game on Friday, May 8.
Sam Searls hit a double among his three hits and Dylan Ross, Will Searls, and Logan Krupke each drove in a run for the Cardinals.
Sam Searls pitched 4.2 innings and allowed eight runs, seven earned, six hits, six walks, and six strikeouts.
Brodhead-Juda slipped to 5-9 with the loss. The Cardinals were scheduled to play a nonconference doubleheader at Mineral Point on Saturday May 9.
Cambridge 4, Belleville 1
The Cambridge Blue Jays broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 win over the Belleville Wildcats in Capitol South baseball on Thursday, May 7.
Austin McKinley and Owen Griffin each got a double, but the Wildcats were only able to score one run in the fourth inning.
Marcus Hebgen pitched 5.2 innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on six hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts.
Belleville 6, Lodi 1
Rayden Taylor belted a two-run homer in the third inning to pave the way for a 6-1 win by the Belleville Wildcats over the Lodi Blue Devils in a Capitol Conference crossover game on Friday, May 8.
Taylor and Randy Raven each had two RBIs and Raven and Marcus Hebgen each had a double to lead the Wildcats’ 10-hit attack.
Dawson Smith and Cavan Crum combined to throw a two-hitter and struck out eight batters.
Belleville (7-9, 3-7 Capitol South) had a nonconference game at home scheduled against Mineral Point on Monday, May 11 followed by a conference game at home against Waterloo on Tuesday, May 12.
Marshall 7, New Glarus 6 (8 innings)
The New Glarus Glarner Knights had a 4-0 lead in the third inning, but the Marshall Cardinals came back to tie the game at 6-6 and win it on Brady Kleinheinz’ home run with two outs in the eighth inning 7-6.
Nolan Julseth, Landon Stelter, and Brock Roth each delivered two hits and Ashlin Mihlbauer drove in two runs to lead the Glarner Knights.
New Glarus (8-4-1) had Dodgeville scheduled for a nonconference game on Saturday May 9 in Dodgeville.
Pecatonica 10, Argyle-Black Hawk 0
Reid Schlimgen had three hits, scored three runs, and drove in three runs to lift the Pecatonica Vikings to a 10-0 win over the Argyle-Black Hawk Warbirds in Six Rivers action on Thursday, May 7.
Schlimgen and Ashton McNett limited ABH to just two hits, both of them by Jackson Berget in the win. McNett also had three hits and Luke Leonard was 2x3 with two RBIs for the Vikings.
Potosi-Cassville 7, Pecatonica 3
The Chieftains got out to 6-0 lead by the third inning and won 7-3 over the Vikings in a Six Rivers game at Blanchardville on Friday, May 8.
Reid Schlimgen got two hits, including a double and drove in a run for the Vikings.
Pecatonica (8-6, 7-4) traveled to River Ridge on Monday, May 11 for a league game against the Timberwolves.
Shullsburg-Benton 11, Argyle-Black Hawk 1
The Argyle-Black Hawk Warbirds were held to one run on just two hits in an 11-1 loss in five innings to Shullsburg-Benton on Friday, May 8.
Cole Dunlavey got one of the Warbirds’ two hits and scored their only run in the first inning.
Argyle-Black Hawk (0-14) hosted Potosi-Cassville in a Six Rivers game on Monday, May 11.
Iowa-Grant 13, Darlington 5
The Iowa-Grant Panthers scored handled the Darlington Redbirds 13-5 in SWAL baseball on Friday, May 8.
Will Fulton hit a home run and the Panthers had four other extra-base hits. Darlington leadoff hitter Landon Edgerton went 3x4 with a double and drove in a run.
Darlington (5-7, 3-7 SWAL) were scheduled to play at Boscobel in conference action on Tuesday, May 12.
River Ridge 10, Monticello-Albany 5
After trailing early 4-1, the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions tied up the game with three runs in the third inning only to see River Ridge get two more in the fourth and four in the sixth to pull away in a Friday, May 8 Six Rivers Conference game.
Cayden Marti went 1x4 with a double and drove in two runs for the Space Stallions. Tanner Hilliard also had a double among his two hits. Hunter Grossen scored two runs.
Monticello-Albany had a non-conference game scheduled on the road at Evansville on Saturday, May 9.
