MADISON — The Wisconsin women’s basketball team suffered back-to-back Big Ten losses to Minnesota and No. 22 Northwestern this past week. The Badgers are now 3-5 overall on the season, with all five losses coming in conference play.

Monroe’s Sydney Hilliard had 21 points and 11 assists in the 88-83 overtime loss to the Gophers Jan. 3. Three days later against Northwestern, Hilliard finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds. She leads the team in scoring and assists this season.

Minnesota (2-5, 1-4) took an 11-point lead after the first quarter, but a rally by Wisconsin sent the game into overtime tied at 70. Northwestern (5-2, 3-2) used a 32-12 run in the second quarter to break the game wide open.

Stepping on the court for the first time in her career was Black Hawk graduate Natalie Leuzinger, who saw three minutes of action in the loss to Northwestern. Junior Sydney Mathiason of Monroe also entered the game in the closing minutes.

The Badgers are scheduled to play at Indiana (5-3, 3-1) Jan. 10, then return home to face No. 15 Michigan (7-0, 2-0) Jan. 14.
