Raiders dominate triple dual

BELLEVILLE - The Sugar River Raiders boys team swept past Cambridge and Marshall to win their triple dual meet on Tuesday. Sugar River outscored Cambridge, 112-32, and Marshall, 103-43. Marshall also held off Cambridge, 89-56.

Eric Liegel played a big role for the Raiders as he won the long jump (17 feet, 9 inches) and the triple jump (37-1 1/2) and helped the 100-meter relay team win with a time of 48.1 seconds and the 400 relay team in 3:42.8.

Brian Anderson captured the 400 in 53 seconds plus the 300 hurdles in 43.6 seconds while Dennis Haak finished first in the 1,600 in 4:39.1.

Other first-place finishers for Sugar River included Travis Beutler in the 800 in 2:04.5, Ryan McCoy in the 3,200 with a time of 10:14.7, and Colton Crye in the discus with a throw of 124-10.

Two other relay teams finished first for Sugar River. The 800 relay team went the distance in 1:40.8 and the 3,200 relay team edged Cambridge by 1.2 seconds with a time of 8:34.9.

Girls

It was a great day for the Raiders' girls track team Tuesday as they cruised by Cambridge (122-21) and Marshall (89-57) to win their triple dual. Marshall beat Cambridge (87-49) to finish off the meet.

Individually, the Raiders were led by Jessica Putland in the field events as she won the discus (89 feet, three inches) and the shot put (30-1).

Ashley Brusveen took first in the high jump as she cleared five feet and Madeline Brunner won the long jump (15-2 1/4).

Alexis Hanson took home a pair of first-place finishes as she won the 100 (13.1 seconds) and 200 (27.8). Victoria Ortgiesen won the 100 hurdles (17.1).

Three of the Raiders' relay teams were victorious.
