Baseball (3-11, 2-10 Badger South):> After a run of hard-fought games, Monroe has lost its last two conference games by a combined 18 runs and were edged by border rival Orangeville on Saturday.
Softball (17-2, 11-1 Badger South):> After wrapping up an outright Badger South title Friday evening, Monroe put a stamp on a stellar regular season with a 10-5 comeback win over Monona Grove on Parents' Night Tuesday.
Track and Field:> Monroe's boys earned fourth at Tuesday's Badger South Conference meet, resulting in a third overall finish in the conference rankings. The girls, meanwhile, placed runner-up behind Verona for the third straight year.
Soccer (5-7-1, 0-7 Badger South):> While the Cheesemakers had their five-game winning streak snapped by Verona Tuesday, Monroe made vast improvements after allowing nine goals to the Big Eight-bound Wildcats last season.
Tennis (6-4, 5-1 Badger South):> After crushing the competition at Saturday's Monroe Doubles Tournament, the Cheesemakers were humbled, 5-2, by an experienced Waunakee squad Tuesday.
Golf:> Monroe placed third at Saturday's Best Ball Invitational and took ninth out of 10 teams in Monday's Madison Memorial Invitational at Black Hawk.

Squeezing out alive:> Black Hawk used what's become its signature play, the suicide squeeze, to get past Albany, 3-2, in Monday evening's Six Rivers East showdown.
Area Softball
Completion of suspended title:> Albany was trailing Argyle, 5-3, when the Six Rivers East clubs resumed a rain-suspended game. The Orioles walked in several runs in what became a 9-run fourth inning. The Comets didn't slow down in pulling out a sweep and securing a share of the conference title.
Area Track and Field
Raiding Waterloo's Pirate ship:> Both Sugar River teams won the team championship at Tuesday's Capitol South Conference Meet in Waterloo. Senior Ashley Beutler won three events (400-, 800- and 1,600-meters) for the Lady Raiders.
Sizzling far from home:> Accustomed to getting things done on the road, both Albany teams won conference titles in Platteville Tuesday. The Comets don't have a home track.
