Girls Basketball (12-3, 8-1 Badger South): Emily Decorah and the Badger North's Waunakee played the role of streak-stopper last Friday with a 55-38 win in Monroe that broke a string of seven straight Cheesemaker victories.

Wrestling: Junior Gavin Wels missed out on Monroe's lone opportunity to win a title bout in losing his 103-pound gold medal match to Reedsburg's Blake Koch and the Cheesemakers placed second to last at Saturday's Badger Conference Tournament in Mount Horeb.

Area Basketball

BOYS

A flair for the dramatic: After holding on to defeat Iowa-Grant on the road, 52-51, Friday night, Darlington needed two overtime sessions to fend off Boscobel on Saturday. Mitchell Erickson led the Redbirds with 14 points.

Having Hart on the road: Black Hawk senior Joey Hartwig put together a personal highlight reel in the second half of a 47-37 victory over Pecatonica Friday night and scored 18 of his 22 points in the last 16 minutes.

GIRLS

Near-miss: The Pecatonica conference title party has been put on hold after Brittany Kent's game-tying shot rimmed off in a 59-57 loss to Barneveld at home Tuesday night, the only game that survived the wave of cancellations.

WRESTLING

Triumphant Trio: Sugar River's outstanding trio of Charles York (140 pounds), Cole Schmitt (145) and JC Francois (171) all won their ladders as the Raiders took third place at Saturday's Capitol Conference meet at Lodi.

Gold medals, silver linings: Brodhead-Juda's Tyler Lincoln (135 pounds), Black Hawk's Jake Kaempfer (160) and Darlington sophomore Devin Malott (103) all took the only individual titles for their respective squads at this past weekend's conference meets.
