MONROE - Aside from the latest stalemate chapter with Verona Southwest, last weekend came up nothing but Avalanche.

Monroe's high school hockey club skated to its fourth tie of the season, 2-2, with the Verona squad at SLICE on Feb. 1 before the Avalance picked up wins of 8-1 and 6-1 at Hartland Arrowhead and at Dodgeville on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Brandon Mortimer was assisted by Crae Riese and Drew Geissbuhler for the first of two second-period goals Friday and Brayden Fritsch scored the second unassisted. Derek Lewis stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced in the heart-stopping contest.

Mortimer continued to sizzle with a hat trick against Arrowhead, while Geissbuhler earned playmaker honors as Lewis stopped 12 of 13 shots.

The Ice Wolves received similarly cold treatment as Michael Gross made 26 saves on 27 attempts at Dodgeville on Sunday and Riese's three assists earned a playmaker title in the blowout.
