MONROE - Both Monroe High School junior Silas Setterstrom at No. 1 singles and the Cheesemakers' No. 1 doubles teams cruised in their first sets Thursday and then battled back in second sets to pull out wins against Fort Atkinson in their Badger Conference opener Thursday.

Monroe lost the dual 5-2 and drops to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the Badger South.

Setterstrom cruised to a 6-3 win over Justin Gdaniec in the first set. Then he trailed 3-0 in the second set before rallying to tie the set at 5. Setterstrom took the second set to a tiebreaker, which he won 7-1.

The Cheesemakers' No. 1 doubles team of Kody Althaus and Tanner Purdy pulled out a 6-3, 7-5 win over the Blackhawks' Cole Bramstadt and Matt Tesch.

"These three players fought hard all day and came out with some great wins," Monroe coach Ashley Hermanson said. "The rest of the team worked hard in their matches as well but couldn't capitalize on many games. Focus and hard work will be key points for the rest of the season."
