Monroe comes up short in overtime

REEDSBURG - The Monroe boys basketball team may feel snake bitten after losing a fourth straight game to Reedsburg 55-53 in overtime Friday night.

Monroe sophomore Brayden Zettle made a layup with 7 seconds to go to cut the Beavers' lead to 55-53. However, the Cheeemakers didn't have any timeouts, and Reedsburg let the clock run out.

"We just can't find a way to win a game," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said. "We are just not making enough winning plays. It's just making a play here or there to get over the hump. That is the frustrating part."

Monroe (2-10, 1-5 Badger South) is now 1-2 in overtime games.

The Cheesemakers trailed the Beavers by six points before rallying to force overtime.

Reedsburg's Tyson Tully drilled a 3-pointer early in the extra session. The Cheesemakers answered right back with junior Alex Tordoff knocking down a 3-pointer. Tully made a challenging layup with 46 seconds to go to give the Beavers a two-point lead they wouldn't relinquish.

"I thought there was no way it's going in," Murphy said. "It was a tough shot."

Tordoff scored a game-high 15 points, and junior Carter Sawdey had 13 points.

Monroe will host Dodgeville at 7:30 p.m. Monday in a makeup game.
