MONROE - The Monroe High School baseball team managed just five hits and lost its fourth straight game, dropping a Badger South Conference contest to Monona Grove 3-2 Tuesday.

"They got a few more hits than we did with guys in scoring position, and we didn't," Monroe assistant coach Eric Losenegger said.

Losenegger served as coach since Monroe head coach Dustin Huffman missed the game due to a death in his family.

The Silver Eagles led 3-0 before the Cheesemakers rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Monroe sophomore Hunter Ward, who went 2-for-3, led off the sixth with a single. Junior Carter Sawdey walked. Junior Cole Murray moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Senior Garrett Gogin, who finished 2-for-3, beat out an infield single to load the bases. Senior Jaron Kuester then lined a two-run single to left to cut the Silver Eagles' lead to one run. Monona Grove worked out of the jam.

Monroe junior pitcher Hogan Edwards pitched a complete game and gave up three runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked four.

"Hogan pitched well enough to get the win," Losenegger said. "We just didn't get enough hits."

Monroe drops to 10-12 overall and 5-5 in the Badger South. Monroe will host Milton on Friday.
