PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — Darlington may have ended its season at the Prairie du Chien regional on Wednesday, Sept. 27, but seniors Sophie Wiegel and Josie Meister get to continue their season in sectionals as individual qualifiers. Last year, the Meister was three strokes from qualifying.
“It is amazing to see both Sophie and Josie advance this year after being so close last year,” Darlington head coach Molly Rice said. “These two girls have worked tremendously hard in the off season to make this happen.”
Darlington finished fourth of eight teams in the regional, carding a 432. Seniors Alyza Johnson, Sydney Weber and Erica Meylor conclude their successful golf careers, which include two top-10 school team scores.
Lancaster won the regional with a team score of 361 and four golfers in the top 10 overall. Edgewood and Southwestern co-op also qualified for team sectionals as second- and third-place finishers, respectively.
Individually, Wiegel and Meister advance to the Division 2 Arcadia sectional on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Trempealeau Mountain. The top three golfers not on an advancing team qualify for state Oct. 9-10 at University Ridge in Madison.
