Vikings send No. 4 Hornets home

WAUZEKA — With a three-run seventh, No. 5-seeded Pecatonica defeated No. 4-seeded Wauzeka-Steuben 6-2 in the WIAA Regional Semifinals on Tuesday, May 23.

After a pop out, Alyssa Cassidy reached on an error and Mikaela Gross walked. Brooklynn Johnsrud then came through with an RBI single. Kyra Chrostowski drew a two-out walk to load the bases, and Chloe Schraepfer delivered a two-RBI double to right to secure the win.

Schraepfer and Maddie Hirsch recorded multiple hit games, while Schraepfer drove in four runs with two doubles. She also collected the win, giving up two earned runs on four hits. She struck out 16 batters and walked four. 


Panthers pound 15 hits

JUDA — Juda-Albany, ranked No. 6 in Division 5, outhit Ithaca 15-3 en route to a 10-5 win in the WIAA Regional Semifinal on Tuesday, May 23. All but one batter in the lineup recorded a hit.

Briliey Swedlund was one of four Panthers to record a multiple-hit game, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Myah Johnson, Alana Durtschi, Emerson Briggs and Ciarrah Davis tallied two hits each, while Allison Rhyner drove in two runs. 

Avary Briggs picked up the win, giving up three earned runs on three hits. She struck out six and walked six.


Argyle’s season ends

HIGHLAND — No. 2-ranked Highland scored in all but one inning, defeating Argyle 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday, May 23.

The Orioles collected just three hits from Ava Wiegel, Kyleah Mick and Brinley Meinert. Mya McNett suffered the loss, giving up seven earned runs on 15 hits.  Argyle concludes its season with a 5-16 record.


Brodhead cruises to regional final

BRODHEAD — Brodhead’s pitching staff of Ava Risum and Mckenna Young combined for a no-hitter in the team’s 11-0, six-inning win over Parkview on Tuesday, May 23. The duo struck out 15 batters without issuing a walk. The No. 2-ranked Cardinals were just an error away from their second perfect game of the season.

The entire lineup contributed to the affair, as just two of 11 batters didn’t record a hit. Allie Dahl led the offense, going 3-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Risum, Sophia Leitzen, Taetum Hoesly and Jaelyn Hilliard also recorded multiple hit games, while Risum, Young and Hoesly drove in two runs each.
