Three-goal third lifts Monroe

BARABOO — Trailing 2-1 three minutes into the third period, Monroe picked up the pace. The Cheesemakers scored three goals in the frame to defeat Baraboo 4-2 and pick up their second conference win on Tuesday, Dec. 12. 

Cameron Newcomer tied the game at 2, and two minutes later, Carter Nemergut scored the game-winning goal with an assist from Brody Koehn. Cole Buholzer’s power-play goal with just over two minutes left in the game put the contest away.

Monroe outshot Baraboo 56-14, Brock Brandli had 14 saves in net. Ethan Rosenstiel led all skaters with two points from two assists.

MIDDLETON 7, BELOIT MEMORIAL 2

MIDDLETON — Wyatt Ehrhardt’s 3-point game lifted Middleton over Beloit Memorial in a Big Eight Conference game on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Beloit outshot Middleton 42-34 but were unable to capitalize on those opportunities.

Both of the Purple Knights’ goals — scored by Cole Rowald — came in the second period. Jayden Piccione and Sam Rowald were credited with the assists. In net, Gentry Grant tallied 27 saves. 

ROCK COUNTY FURY 2, CAP CITY COUGARS 1

BELOIT — The Kligora sisters worked together to give the Rock County Fury a 2-1 OT win over the Cap City Cougars on Tuesday, Dec. 12. With the victory, Rock County improved to 6-2 in the Badger Conference and lead with 12 points.

With less than four minutes in the game, Ava Kligora scored with assists from Emma Kligora and Maizy Fonseca. For the next 14 minutes, the Fury’s defense shut out the Cougars, forcing overtime. There, Emma Kligora scored four minutes in to take the ‘dub.’

Jillian Traver allowed just one goal on 34 shots for a .971 save percentage.
