Staab: Some Arithmetic
Case for Driving an Electric Car

From Ed Staab

Monroe

To the Editor:

2,803 people cast “Yes” ballots for the Monroe school referendum. $2.75 million divided by 2,803 is $981 (and some cents). If each of the “Yes” voters were, in each of the next four years, to donate $981 to the Monroe schools then the district would net the funds that it was hoping to win through the referendum.

You might say that some people can’t afford $981 per year for four years. That’s true, and likewise some people can’t afford the costs that would be levied on them if the referendum had passed. I hope everyone will consider that before castigating the “No” voters.
