MONROE — Monroe High School recognized ten seniors who will be continuing their athletic careers during a program held after school on Wednesday, May 6. The student-athletes signed their Letters of Intent after being introduced by their high school coach or Athletic Director Eric Jubek.
Logan Taylor will be playing basketball at Milwaukee School of Engineering as and is excited to take his skills to the next level.
“If feels good. I was deciding between a few different colleges, but I’m very excited with MSOE as my choice,” said Taylor.
Megan Chapman will compete in swimming at UW-Eau Claire and is looking forward to what’s ahead.
“I’m excited for a new environment and a new place to train and the new girls I’m going to meet and just to have fun,” Chapman said.
Kaegann Paulson is a two-time All-State softball player and will continue playing at Madison College. Paulson said she feels really good about her future. “It’s very exciting and I can’t wait for the opportunity to be playing and having fun,” Paulson said.
Miley Hanson has excelled at track and field and cross country for Monroe and will be going to Clark University in Dubuque, Iowa to continue.
“I’m excited to improve more as an athlete and as a person,” said Hanson.
Kennedy Voegeli will be attending UW-Whitewater at Rock County where she will compete in volleyball. Voegeli said she feels really good about her decision to play for the Warhawks.
“I’m really excited to continue my volleyball journey through UW-Rock at Whitewater,” Voegeli said.
Connor Eckdhal talked about what he’s planning to in his athletic career as a wrestler.
“I’m going to Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. The coaches and teammates seem nice. I’m just looking forward to continue to the next big level,” Eckdhal said.
Tre Dammen is going to Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado for cross country and explained how he came to his decision.
“They were just national runners-up in cross country and they barely lost in the National Championship and are a pristine school. It just felt like the right fit,” Dammen said.
Waylon Yoder will be heading to Marshall, Minn. where he will be competing in track and field for the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs.
“I went there for a visit not too long ago. The coaches were great and their program for accounting is very good, too, so that’s what I went with,” Yoder said.
Jy’Shon Broitzman will be attending UW-Stevens Point where he will be competing for the Pointers in track and field.
“I’m really excited to run at the next level and I’m really excited about the competition, also,” Broitzman said.
Peyton Herbst is enrolling at UW-Platteville where he’ll play football for the Pioneers. He talked about the process that led him to decide to go to college at Platteville.
“First of all, I wasn’t going to go to college, and then Coach (Ryan) Munz and their special teams coordinator texted me, asking me what my plans were and invited to a tour to see if I wanted to be a part of the team. After I went on the tour, I decided I was going to long-snap for them. It’s gonna be a good experience. I’m very excited to go there and play,” Herbst said.
Following the presentation, Monroe High School hosted its Senior Awards Night.
