BRODHEAD — Braylon Strehlow hit a walk-off three-run inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the seven inning to give the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals a 9-8 win over the Monroe Cheesemakers in a Rock Valley conference crossover game on Friday, May 1. It was the third straight game Monroe lost in the final inning, following an April 28 loss to Edgerton and an April 30 loss to Evansville.
Strehlow hit a 1-2 pitch with two outs deep to right field with two runners on that went for an inside-the-park home run. Strehlow finished the day 1x4 with three RBIs and scored the winning run. Sam Searls went 3x3 and scored two runs for the Cardinals. Catcher Beck Benton went 2x4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Catcher Logan Meier led the Cheesemakers with two hits in three at-bats with a run scored and an RBI. Left fielder Sam Voegeli walked three times and scored a run. Zane Seffrood hit a double and scored two runs for the Cheesemakers.
Searls started for the Cardinals and struck out seven in four innings. Manny Bueno got the win in relief with three innings pitched and got two strikeouts.
Trent Wyss and Landon Wuebben combined to strike out 11 batters for Monroe.
Brodhead (4-7, 3-5 RVC-Rock) had a nonconference game scheduled on Monday, May 4 at Stoughton before returning to Rock Valley Conference action with a crossover game on Thursday, May 7 at home against East Troy.
Monroe (2-8, 2-4 RVC-Valley) was scheduled for RVC crossover games at Turner on Tuesday, May 5 and at home against Big Foot on Thursday, May 7.
Evansville 5, Monroe 3 (8 innings)
The Evansville Blue Devils scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to edge the Monroe Cheesemakers 5-3 in a RVC crossover game on Thursday, April 30.
The Cheesemakers had a 3-1 lead going into the final inning, but the Blue Devils tied it at 3-3 to send the game into extra innings. In the eighth inning, Cade Kleisch walked and scored and Kiptyn Copeland reached on an error and scored to give the Blue Devils the win.
Zane Seffrood got a hit and drove in two runs for the Cheesemakers. Seffrood also pitched into the seventh inning, but had no decision after allowing two runs on three hits, one walk, and 14 strikeouts.
Delavan-Darien 15, Brodhead-Juda 5 (6 innings)
The Delavan-Darien Comets stung Brodhead-Juda with seven runs in the first inning on their way to a 15-5 win over the Cardinals in six innings on Thursday, April 30.
Shortstop Sam Searls went 1x3 with a triple and had three RBIs to lead the Cardinals at the plate. Third baseman Manny Bueno got on base three times with two hits, a walk, and an RBI.
New Glarus 19, Waterloo 9
The Glarner Knights went off for 11 runs over the final four innings after snapping an 8-8 tie to get a 19-9 win in six innings over the Waterloo Pirates in Capitol South baseball on Thursday April 30.
Shortstop Nolan Julseth was 3x3 with three RBIs and scored four runs to lead an 18-hit attack for the Glarner Knights. Brock Roth was 4x4 with three RBIs and Landon Stelter was 3x4 with a double and three RBIs to pace the Knights.
New Glarus (5-3-1, 3-1) had a nonconference game scheduled against Clinton on Friday, May 1, then returned to Capitol South action against Marshall scheduled on Tuesday, May 5.
Wisconsin Heights 4, Belleville 3 (8 innings)
The Belleville Wildcats came up short in an eight-inning loss to the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards in a Capitol South Conference game on Thursday, April 30.
The game was tied 1-1 after seven innings, but the Vanguards put up three runs in the top of the eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, Marcus Hebgen hit a two-run homer with one out to pull the Wildcats to within 4-3, but reliever Zachary Sander struck out the last two batters to get the win for Wisconsin Heights.
Hebgen finished the day 2x4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Edgewood 8, Belleville 2
The Edgewood Crusaders got a 4-0 lead in the second inning and handcuffed the Belleville Wildcats on just three hits to get an 8-2 win in nonconference action on Friday, May 1.
Dawson Smith and Gavan Crum each got a hit and an RBI for the Wildcats, who were unable to take advantage of seven walks issued by Edgewood.
Belleville (6-6, 1-3 Capitol South) is back in Capitol South action with home-and-away games with Cambridge on Tuesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 7.
Darlington 8, Monticello-Albany 7
The Redbirds hung on to beat the Space Stallions 8-7 in nonconference baseball on Thursday, April 30.
The Redbirds got three runs in the third inning, three runs in the fourth inning, and two runs in the sixth inning to account for all of their runs.
Forrest Liddicoat went 2x3 with two RBIs to lead the Redbirds. Dante Glendenning hit a triple and Grady O’Brien and Landon Edgerton each had a double and an RBI for Darlington.
Tyler Patchen was 3x4 with a double and Korbin Timm and Tanner Hilliard each ripped a double for the Space Stallions. Monticello-Albany made it interesting with a run in the seventh to close to within 8-7, but Liddicoat got the last two batters out with a pair of strikeouts.
Darlington (3-4, 2-4) hosted Southwestern in a SWAL conference game scheduled on Friday, May 1 and had Cuba City scheduled for another SWAL matchup on the road on Tuesday, May 5.
Monticello-Albany 11, Argyle-Black Hawk 4
The Monticello-Albany Space Stallions strung together seven runs over the third and fourth innings to get an 11-4 Six Rivers Conference win on Friday, May 1 over the Argyle-Black Hawk Warbirds in South Wayne.
Ty Durtschi went 3x4 at the plate, drove in a run and scored two runs. Even though he didn’t get a hit, Tyler Constantini walked twice and scored three runs. Milo Smith and Dominic Schroeder each had two RBIs for the Space Stallions.
For the Warbirds, Mitchell Johnsen was 2x4 with two runs scored and Ole Isely was 2x3 with an RBI.
Tyler Patchen and Tanner Hilliard combined to pitch seven innings for the Space Stallions, giving up four runs on six hits, three walks and 11 strikeouts.
Monticello-Albany (2-8, 2-4) had Six Rivers conference games scheduled on Monday, May 4 at home against Pecatonica and Tuesday, May 5 at Potosi-Cassville. Argyle-Black Hawk (0-9, 0-8) also had Six Rivers on Monday, May 4 (at Belmont) and Tuesday, May 5 (home vs. Pecatonica).
New Glarus 23, Clinton 5
Shortstop Nolan Julseth hit a home run and drove in six to power the Glarner Knights to a 23-5 rout of the Clinton Cougars in a nonconference baseball game on Friday, May 1.
Julseth went 4x4 and scored five runs while Ashlin Mihlbauer was 2x4 with a triple and two RBIs. Ethan Colstad was 2x3 with three RBIs for the Glarner Knights.
Liam Crawford pitched four innings and struck out four to get the win.
New Glarus (6-3-1, 3-1) was scheduled to host Marshall in Capitol South play on Tuesday, May 5 followed by a nonconference game on Wednesday, May 6 at Johnson Creek.
Wisconsin Heights 7, Pecatonica 4
The Wisconsin Heights Vanguards used a three-run fourth inning to build on a 4-1 lead and top the Pecatonica Vikings 7-4 in nonconference baseball on Friday, May 1.
The Vikings had eight hits, but only one extra-base hit. Pecatonica got two runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough. Austin Enloe had two hits and drove in a run. Reid Schlimgen struck out nine batters in four innings for Pec.
Pecatonica (5-4, 4-2) was scheduled to play at Monticello-Albany on Monday, May 4 and at Argyle-Black Hawk on Tuesday, May 5 in Six Rivers Conference action.
Pecatonica 2, Mineral Point 0
The Pecatonica Vikings snapped a 0-0 tie with two runs in the top the sixth inning, and Ashton McNett and Austin Enloe combined on a four-hit shutout to down the Mineral Point Pointers 2-0 in a nonconference game played at Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa on Thursday, April 30.
In the sixth inning, Kale Hendrickson walked and scored and Marty Anderson got on with a base hit. Anderson scored on a sacrifice fly by Reid Schlimgen.
