SPRING GREEN — Monroe’s boys team was fifth and the girls were sixth in the large school division at the annual River Valley Invitational, held Sept. 11.

Madison La Follette won the boys team title (68 points), with DeForest (86), Dodgeville-Mineral Point (116), Sauk Prairie (159) and Monroe (166) taking the next spots. Mount Horeb (170) was sixth, just ahead of New Glarus-Monticello (187). In all, 16 schools registered team scores.

Sauk Prairie’s Jack Boerger won the race with a time of 16:13.0. NGM’s Tom Nelson was 11th (17:12.9), with teammate Evan Guenther (17:28.3) two places behind. Monroe’s Heath Huschitt was 15th (17:31.4), with Lucas Sathoff 19th (17:38.6. 

Anthony Wels was the third Monroe runner to cross the finish line, taking 40th overall at 18:19.1, with teammate Zander Slack four places behind (18:33.2). NGM’s Brayden Ryan was 42nd (18:27.5) and teammate Grayson Rodefeld was 55th (18:51.9). Monroe’s Jared Batz was 51st (18:44.9).

Dodgeville-Mineral Point (59) won the girls large-school race, with DeForest (88), Waunakee (91) and New Glarus-Monticello (112) rounding out the top four. Mount Horeb was fifth at 117, while Monroe’s 172 points put the Cheesemakers in sixth.

Dodgeville-Mineral Point had the first three runners cross the finish line: Freshmen Ellie Robinson (18:39.3), Annie Robinson (19:33.2) and junior Julia Thompson (19:47.4).

NGM’s Lily Maynard was ninth (20:27.4), while teammates Dayna Karls (11th, 20:52.5), Annika Ziperski (23rd, 21:21.2), Melanie Fink (35th (22:16.0) and Emma Martinson (42nd, 22:24.3) rounded out the team’s scoring. Monroe’s Sierra McGuire was 18th (21:11.4) and Jayden Elgin was 21st (21:16.7). Also scoring for Monroe were Alyssa Roelli (26th, 21:32.2), Ximena Miranda (50th, 22:52.9) and Katrina Sathoff (68th, 23:41.7). 

In the smalls schools division, Albany’s boys team was second (98), trailing only Boscobel (54). Darlington (145) was sixth, Belleville (169) seventh and Pecatonica-Argyle (196) eighth out of 16 teams. Lancaster (61) edged out Boscobel (67) for the girls title, with Darlington (71) and Albany (74) giving the entire field a run for its money.

Lancaster’s Mallory Olmstead won the girls race at 19:46.4, ahead of Boscobel’s Lilah Glasbrenner (20:00.6). Darlington’s Raquel Reuter (20:01.7) and Judith Meister (20:22.5) were third and fourth.

Also scoring for Darlington were Alexis Murray (21st, 22:46.8), Stella McGowan (22nd, 22:48.8) and Shayla Gold (25th, 22:55.6)

Ava Ahnen was the first Comet across the finish line (5th, 20:32.0), just ahead of teammate McKenna Broughton (6th, 20:35.7). Emileigh Dallman (17th, 22:00.1), Payton Wachholz (20th, 22:41.7) and Kaiya Zurfluh (33rd, 23:29.9) also scored for the Comets.

Pecatonica-Argyle’s Anna Tisch was 36th overall at 23:33.1 in the 75-person race. 

Belleville’s Carter Scholey won the small-school boys race (16:35.8), with Darlington’s Rhett Reuter taking second (16:57.9). 

Also scoring for Darlington were Ethan Thompson (26th, 19:11.9), Ethan Aird (31st, 19:20.9), Gerson Soto, 38th, 19:40.0 and Richard Cruz (57th, 20:39.1). 

Albany’s team scores included runs by Gage Roth (9th, 18:08.2), Jesse Schwartz (14th, 18:15.1), Brian Cid (22nd, 19:02.3), Ethan Koss (24th, 19:08.3) and Brayden Bakken (37th, 19:39.4). 

Pecatonica-Argyle’s scoring came from Ridge Toay (13th, 18:13.6), Brady Penniston (30th, 19:17.8), Kristian Orloff (33rd, 19:26.8), Nathan Nickels (62nd, 21:06.6) and Tyler McKeon (71st, 21:35.0). 

There were 106 runners in the small-division boys race.
